If your OBS YouTube Live playlist is not advancing, first check which OBS source is supplying the video. A Media Source plays one file and its Loop setting repeats that file; a VLC Video source plays a playlist, with separate controls for looping or shuffling the list. YouTube’s loop control affects playback in the YouTube player, not the files OBS sends to your live stream.
First identify what is supposed to advance
In the scene used for your broadcast, find the source that contains the video. OBS distinguishes between a single-file Media Source and a VLC Video source that can use a playlist. The source type determines which playback controls to check. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

Troubleshoot a VLC Video playlist that will not advance
- Open the broadcast scene and inspect the source. Select the source that is meant to provide the video and open its properties. If it is a Media Source, it represents one file; use VLC Video for a playlist of multiple files.
- Verify the playlist entries. In VLC Video properties, confirm that the intended files are actually present. Check that the list contains the next file you expect to play.
- Review the playlist controls. Turn on
Loop Playlistif the list should restart after its entries finish. LeaveShuffle Playlistoff if you need a predictable sequence; shuffle changes the order rather than fixing a missing entry. - Check whether VLC Video is available. If it is missing from OBS’s source menu, install VLC. OBS’s documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Check source visibility behavior if the issue follows a scene change. OBS’s VLC source has behavior controls related to stopping or restarting, pausing or resuming, and always playing when the source is hidden or shown. Review the selected behavior if the source pauses or restarts around a scene change. This is a diagnostic possibility, not proof that visibility caused a playlist-advance failure; the available documentation does not establish a universal cause.
- Compare local preview with the live player. Confirm whether OBS’s preview advances before diagnosing YouTube. If the preview advances but the YouTube player appears to repeat, check the viewer’s player controls and the stream output separately.

Do not confuse YouTube’s player loop with OBS playback
YouTube’s loop feature controls how a viewer repeats a video or playlist in YouTube’s player. It does not choose which local files OBS sends as a live stream. For the viewer-side control, see YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube. If OBS itself is sending the same file repeatedly, return to the OBS source type and playlist settings.
If the playlist still will not advance
The documented controls do not identify a universal fault or a version-specific bug that explains every stalled playlist. To narrow down an unresolved case, record your OBS version and operating system, the exact source type, the playlist contents, and the relevant OBS log. These details help distinguish a source configuration issue from a problem specific to an installation or playback setup; without them, it is not possible to name a confirmed cause.
