To keep a local playlist in its chosen order in OBS, arrange its files in the VLC Video Source list, turn off Shuffle Playlist, and turn on Loop Playlist if it should repeat. If the playlist is hosted on YouTube, use a Browser Source with YouTube’s embedded player playlist parameters instead: OBS’s VLC source is for local media, not for managing a YouTube playlist.
First identify which playlist you’re trying to control
OBS has different routes for local media and for a playlist hosted on YouTube. The setting that preserves file-list order in a VLC Video Source does not control YouTube’s playlist player.
- Local files: Use a VLC Video Source. Turn shuffle off for a fixed sequence; enable looping if playback should begin again after the last file.
- YouTube playlist: Use an OBS Browser Source to display the embedded YouTube player. Set the player to load the playlist and loop it.
- Resume at the same local file after OBS restarts: A third-party OBS plugin may be an option, but its compatibility and behavior should be confirmed for your installation.
Preserve the order of local files in a VLC Video Source

Arrange the files in the intended sequence
Open the VLC Video Source properties and verify that its file entries are in the order you want. This is the source’s file-list order.

Disable Shuffle Playlist
Turn Shuffle Playlist off. OBS describes this setting as determining whether the source randomizes the media files or stays in the file-list order. With shuffle disabled, playback follows the order you arranged.

Enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should repeat
Turn Loop Playlist on to have the source restart after it has run out of media files. Shuffle and loop do separate jobs: shuffle affects order; loop affects what happens at the end.

Check what happens when the source is hidden
If the source becomes hidden as you switch scenes, review Visibility Behaviour. OBS provides choices for stopping and restarting, pausing and unpausing, or always playing. This controls playback while the source is not visible; it does not set the file-list order.

OBS’s Media Sources documentation describing these settings is dated January 11, 2022. If the labels or available choices differ in your installed OBS version, use the properties shown by that version.
Make an embedded YouTube playlist loop in an OBS Browser Source
For a playlist hosted on YouTube, use the playlist’s embedded player rather than adding it as a VLC media file. YouTube’s player parameters support loading a playlist with listType=playlist and its playlist ID in list. Set loop=1 to make the player start the playlist again from its first video after the last one.

Get the playlist’s embed player information
Use YouTube’s embed option for the playlist to obtain the player embed details. Identify the playlist ID; it is the value to use for the player’s
listparameter. -
Add the player as a Browser Source
In OBS, create or select a Browser Source and configure it to display the embedded playlist player. In the player URL or embed parameters, specify

Set playlist looping
Add
loop=1to the player parameters. This makes the playlist, rather than just a single video, return to its first video when it reaches the end. -
Decide whether to request autoplay
YouTube documents an autoplay parameter that can start playback without user interaction. YouTube also says that playback data collection and sharing occur upon page load when autoplay is enabled. Autoplay, embedding, or content restrictions may prevent a particular playlist from playing as expected in a particular environment.

The YouTube documentation describes embedded player parameters; it is not an OBS-specific setup guide. Test your own playlist in the Browser Source before relying on it for a live broadcast.

Shuffle is intended to randomize playback, so a different order after restarting is consistent with using shuffle. One OBS forum user reported that a shuffled order can be generated when the source loads and differ after OBS restarts. That is an anecdotal report, not an official guarantee about restart behavior. If the sequence must stay fixed, disable shuffle and arrange the files in the intended order.
If you instead need a local playlist to reopen on the file that was playing when OBS closed, the OBS forum resource for Media Playlist Source 0.1.3 says the plugin saves the currently playing file for playback after an OBS restart. Its resource page lists OBS 30.0.0 as the minimum version and Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms. Those are the resource page’s stated capabilities, not a verified compatibility result for your setup. Confirm the current plugin status and compatibility before relying on it. It is a local media option, not a verified solution for controlling a YouTube-hosted playlist.
