Hints for Strands #227
This is the October 16, 2024 puzzle, not a puzzle from a different year on the same calendar date. TechRadar’s guide was published October 15, 2024, while the puzzle date is October 16. TechRadar’s October 16 Strands guide reports these clues:
- Theme: “How Poe-tic.”
- Words that can earn in-game hints: WEAR, WINK, DINNER, MIND, MINE and PANG.
- Spangram hint: “Black bird.”
- Spangram path: It starts at the top in column five and ends at the bottom in column four.
Tom’s Guide, syndicated by Inkl, offers an additional unofficial clue: “Sorrow for the lost Lenore.” Read the syndicated Tom’s Guide hint.
How this Strands puzzle works
Strands is a themed word-search game: find the theme words in the letter grid, along with a spangram that describes the theme. Try Hard Guides says that finding three non-theme words unlocks a hint revealing a theme word. The game can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile, according to TechRadar. The theme points to Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Raven.” The answer guides connect words including “weak and weary,” “midnight” and “Nevermore” to the poem; Tom’s Guide’s syndicated explanation also invokes Lenore. This is the guides’ explanation of the puzzle’s references.
