Hints for Strands #469
Strands is a word-search-style puzzle played on a six-by-eight letter grid. Find the theme words and the spangram; all letters are used, and found theme answers are highlighted. The NYT game is available on its website and in the NYT Games app. Forbes’ guide to the June 15 puzzle describes the mechanics and access options.
According to the game guides, finding three non-theme words of at least four letters can earn an in-game hint. Try words you spot in the grid if you want help without revealing the answers.

The five theme words are CHALUPA, CRAWDAD, PAPARAZZI, POPCORN, and POPSICLE. The spangram is FATHERS DAY, also written “Father’s Day.” It runs from the left side to the right side of the board; TechRadar reports that its path touches both sides in the fifth row. | Answer | Father-related fragment |
|---|---|
| CHALUPA | Ends in PA |
| CRAWDAD | Contains DAD |
| PAPARAZZI | Begins with PAPA |
| POPCORN | Begins with POP |
| POPSICLE | Begins with POP |
| FATHERS DAY (spangram) | The occasion tying the theme together |
Why these words fit
The theme is built around informal father terms: PA appears at the end of CHALUPA, DAD inside CRAWDAD, PAPA at the start of PAPARAZZI, and POP at the start of both POPCORN and POPSICLE. Together with the FATHERS DAY spangram, those fragments resolve the celebratory clue.
