This archive page covers NYT Strands puzzle #333, published Thursday, January 30, 2025—not the current daily puzzle. The gentle clue: its theme comes from a classic poem.

Hints for Strands #333

Use these clues in order, stopping when you have enough to solve the grid.

  1. Theme: “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening.”
  2. Broader clue: Think of a classic verse.
  3. First two letters: The eight regular words begin FR, DA, DE, BE, SH, SL, LO, and LA. The spangram begins FR.
  4. Spangram location: It runs horizontally from the left edge to the right edge across row five.

How the Strands clues fit together

The theme phrase is “Stopping by woods on a snowy evening,” a reference to Robert Frost’s poem. The answer set draws on its imagery and wording: frozen, dark, deep, lake, sleep, shake, lovely, and bells. FROST POEM spans the fifth row from one side of the board to the other.

How Strands hints work

Parade reproduces the game instruction, “Find theme words to fill the board,” and explains that the spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board; it may contain two words. Its guide also says that finding three non-theme words earns a hint that reveals letters from a theme word. These instructions are reported by Parade and are not independently confirmed here against an NYT game page.
