Theme clue and first hint

The clue is “A shade envious?” Think of the familiar association between envy and the color green. That connection points toward the puzzle’s theme without giving away every word.

Spangram

GREENS is the spangram. It makes the clue’s green connection explicit and frames the remaining answers as shades of green or words associated with green.

How Strands works

Strands is a word-search-style puzzle in NYT Games. Connect adjacent letters—vertically, horizontally, or diagonally—to form words that fit the daily theme. A word can turn as it crosses the grid. The spangram is the theme-defining word and runs from one side of the board to the opposite side. For a further rules explanation, see Forbes’ Strands guide.

Contemporaneous coverage identifies NYT Games as the place to access the game, but current access and subscription terms are not established here. ABP Live also reported the access point.
