The complete answer list is below the spoiler warning.
Hints for Strands #278
Parade’s guide described the theme as a “gathering” of individuals. The spangram runs horizontally, left to right. Its first-letter hint is FE; the other theme-word first-letter hints are GR, CR, CL, SO, CL, BU and CI. These are starting-letter clues, not a required solving order. Parade’s December 6 guide
Use the in-game hint if you need more help
Under the rules described by Parade, finding three valid words that are not theme answers earns a hint. That hint reveals letters belonging to an unsolved theme word, which you still need to identify and trace. The same three-word hint mechanic is also described by Try Hard Guides.

Parade’s guide attributes these rules to The New York Times: theme words fill the board without overlapping, and the spangram describes the theme while touching two opposite sides of the board. A spangram can consist of two words in general; for this puzzle, it was the single word FELLOWSHIP. Parade’s rules and puzzle guide
