Spangram: FICTION GENRE
The spangram names the connection among the other five answers: each is a fiction genre. Some answer guides display it without a space as FICTIONGENRE. It runs horizontally across the board, touching the left and right sides, according to the dated answer guides.
How the theme fits Strands
Strands asks players to find theme words and a spangram in a word-search-style grid. The spangram describes the theme and reaches two opposite sides of the board; it can contain two words. Parade reproduces the New York Times gameplay instructions with that explanation. Theme words highlight in blue, while the spangram highlights in yellow; finding non-theme words can earn hints.
