Start with the puzzle’s theme clue, then reveal only as much as you need.

  1. Theme clue: “All decked out!”
  2. Additional nudge: “Deal me in.”
  3. Theme category: The answers are names of card games.
  4. First two letters: The six theme words begin PI, CR, CA, RU, EU, and PO.
  5. Spangram: It starts with C, ends with S, and runs vertically from bottom to top.
  6. Word count: There are seven theme words in total, counting the spangram.

The spangram is CARDGAMES. It identifies the shared theme and runs vertically from the bottom of the board to the top.

How Strands hints work

In Strands, you drag or tap letters to form words. Theme words fill the board without overlapping. The spangram describes the theme, touches two opposite sides of the board, and may contain two words. Finding three non-theme words earns a hint that reveals the letters of a theme word.
