How NYT Pips works
Pips asks you to cover a grid with dominoes while satisfying the conditions shown in its colored regions. A numbered region sets a total-pip sum; = requires matching values; ≠ requires different values; < and > set bounds; and a blank region has no numerical condition. A domino can cross a region boundary. Each half is checked against the condition for the region it occupies, so the two halves do not have to satisfy the same rule. Keep that in mind when a placement seems to conflict with one region viewed in isolation.

A player in the October 10 discussion reports that the 4–5 domino belongs horizontally. If you force it into a vertical position, the nearby 2–5 placement can appear impossible. Players report four zeroes to account for. Their suggested starting deductions include pairing a left-side zero with 1 (0–1), using a 0–5 toward the right-side region totaling 11, and routing the remaining zero upward. These are reported starting points, not a verified full solution sequence; the discussion does not establish every placement on the board.

The date-specific discussion supports selected Medium and Hard deductions, but the available sources do not establish a complete, independently verified placement list for Easy, Medium, and Hard. A second guide also identifies October 10 as #54 after October 9’s #53, while another October 10 walkthrough labels it #53. The calendar date is the safer identifier.
The official NYT Games Pips page is where to play, but the archived October 10 board could not be independently checked there. A page titled for October 10 whose body instead discusses October 4 should not be used as a solution source.
