NYT Pips has Easy, Medium, and Hard puzzles dated Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Third-party pages publish hints and solution boards for all three, but their descriptions conflict on the board layouts and region rules. Use the links below to inspect the date-specific solutions; treat any exact counts or move-by-move directions as unverified unless they match the puzzle in the NYT game.
September 15 puzzle set
NYT Game Solver identifies the September 15 puzzles as Easy #1278, Medium #1283, and Hard #1290, and says its placements are based on NYT official puzzle data. These are third-party solution pages, not an NYT-published answer key: NYT Game Solver’s September 15 solutions and Pips Hint’s September 15 archive.
The two pages disagree about the number of regions in each puzzle. Pips Hint lists 6, 1, and 9 regions for Easy, Medium, and Hard; NYT Game Solver lists 7, 6, and 16. Technobezz also describes particular Hard-puzzle constraints, but those details do not resolve the disagreement. Because the NYT game page could not be checked against the summaries, exact region counts, conditions, and placements should not be presented as confirmed.
How NYT Pips works
Pips is a domino-placement logic puzzle. Place the available dominoes across the board so the pip values in each colored region meet that region’s mathematical rule. How to use the hints without spoiling more than you want
- Open the date-specific hint page and choose the difficulty you are solving.
- Start with a region whose rule leaves few possible pip totals or placements. The date archive recommends this general approach, but check its board against the NYT puzzle before following any layout-specific hint.
- Track the domino values you have already placed. A value pairing that fits one region may be needed elsewhere.
- If you want the completed arrangement, open the solution board for the matching difficulty and compare it with the live puzzle before copying placements.
