Here are the hints and published placements for the three NYT Pips boards dated Monday, December 15, 2025: Easy, Medium, and Hard. The date-specific answer page identifies the puzzle as #120. Spoilers follow, so stop before the difficulty level you have not played.
How to read the December 15 Pips answers
Pips is a domino-based logic puzzle: place the supplied dominoes vertically or horizontally to cover the board while satisfying the conditions in its colored regions. A numbered region requires its dots to total the displayed number; an equal region requires its dots to match; and a less-than region requires a sum below its threshold. Greater-than regions work in the corresponding way: their sum must exceed the stated number. Dominoes can be rotated to fit.
Each heading below names a region condition, followed by the dominoes assigned to it in the published answer. These are placements by condition, not a separately verified board diagram.
Easy board
- Less Than 5: 0–0 vertically; 4–5 vertically.
- Greater Than 6: 5–5 vertically; 2–2 vertically.
- Equal 5: 4–5 vertically; 5–5 vertically.
Medium board
- Number 5, purple region: 5–2 vertically.
- Number 5, red region: 5–2 vertically; 3–3 horizontally.
- Greater Than 3: 4–4 horizontally.
- Not Equal: 3–3 horizontally; 4–4 horizontally; 0–0 vertically; 2–2 vertically; 5–5 vertically; 1–6 horizontally.
- Greater Than 4, dark blue region: 1–6 horizontally.
- Number 2: 2–2 vertically; 5–5 vertically.
- Number 5: 5–5 vertically.
Hard board
- Number 4, purple region: 4–5 horizontally.
- Number 11, red region: 4–5 horizontally; 6–5 horizontally.
- Greater Than 4, light blue region: 6–5 horizontally.
- Number 3, yellow region: 3–3 horizontally.
- Not Equal: 3–3 horizontally; 4–4 horizontally; 5–5 horizontally; 0–0 vertically; 6–1 horizontally.
What the difficulty labels mean
December 15 has three separate boards—Easy, Medium, and Hard—not one board that advances through levels of hints. Pick the set matching the board you opened. The answer listings give tile orientations and region assignments, but not a full board diagram; use the puzzle’s visible board to map each placement to its cells.
