How the Mini works
The Mini is a smaller version of the New York Times Crossword. Fill the white squares with letters that form words or phrases crossing one another, using the Across and Down clues. See the NYT Help Center’s Mini Crossword guide for game details.
Access and features
The NYT Help Center says the game is available to subscribers whose subscription includes Games through the NYT Games app, the NYT crossword website, and the News app. Subscribers can also solve past Minis in the archive. The game includes pencil mode for tentative entries, a timer, and personal leaderboards for invited players; the Help Center says there are no global leaderboards.
For release timing, the NYT Help Center says weekday and Saturday puzzles become available at 10 p.m. EST on the preceding day, while Sunday puzzles become available at 6 p.m. EST on Saturday. You can use Check or Reveal for a square, an answer, or the full grid.
