Spoiler warning: The answers below solve the NYT Mini Crossword for Thursday, March 27, 2025. If you want a nudge before seeing the full grid, read the hints first and stop before the answer lists.

Hints for the March 27 Mini

  • 1-Across: Think fuel, not exercise.
  • 3- and 7-Across: Together, they name a structure that can collapse as pieces are removed.
  • 3-Down: The clue points to a step inside a famous monument.

Across answers

  1. GAS — Something from pumping.
  2. DONT — Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
  3. JENGA — With 7-Across, it often falls to pieces.
  4. ECOLI — Bacterium that can prompt a food recall.
  5. TOWER — Completes the paired answer with 3-Across.

Down answers

  1. GONOW — “Leave this instant!”
  2. ANGLE — Perspective.
  3. STAIR — One of 354 to reach the crown inside the Statue of Liberty. The answer guide gives this number; it has not been independently verified here.
  4. DECO — Art ___ (architectural style).
  5. JET — Boeing 757 or Airbus A350.

The central wordplay: JENGA TOWER

3-Across and 7-Across combine to make JENGA TOWER. The clue’s “falls to pieces” phrasing describes what happens to the tower in the game as blocks are removed. “Something from pumping” also has a small misdirection: it points to gasoline, not a workout.
