What can be confirmed about the December 3 puzzle?
A Chronicle of the Horse discussion posted on December 3, 2024 refers to that day’s Connections: Sports Edition as “Puzzle #71” and links to the NYT/The Athletic game. The discussion includes colored solve patterns and a mention of Omaha, but it does not transcribe the puzzle board or name its categories. Those comments cannot establish the answer set.
The game’s general format is sixteen sports-related terms sorted into four groups of four. That describes how the puzzle works; it does not identify the terms or groups for this date.
Why the puzzle number and date are uncertain
A HintPulse archive uses a different date-number mapping: it lists #71 on November 27, 2024, and #77 on December 3. That conflicts with the contemporaneous player discussion identifying the December 3 game as #71. The conflicting archive entry is not enough to determine which answer set belongs to the puzzle described in the title.

Since neither source supplies a verified transcription of the December 3 board, the category clues, group labels, and sixteen answer words remain unconfirmed. Publishing a set of hints or answers as #71 would require choosing between incompatible identifications or inferring answers from incomplete comments.
How to avoid a false answer reveal
Check the puzzle date and number against the original game or a reliable contemporaneous answer record before relying on a solution. Do not use colored solve patterns or the Omaha comment as substitutes for the actual board: they do not disclose the four groups.
