These clues move from broad themes to the category names. Stop before the spoiler break if you want to solve the puzzle yourself.
- Yellow: Something a mentor might do.
- Green: These are tracked in a certain sport.
- Blue: Athletes from a specific area.
- Purple: Individuals who share the same first name.

How Connections works
The New York Times describes Connections this way: “Players are given 16 words and must find groups of four items that share something in common.” The groups are color-coded, with yellow generally the easiest and purple the trickiest. Some words may appear to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one solution. Read the NYT Help Center’s Connections guidance.

Where to play Sports Edition
The NYT Help Center lists NYTimes.com Games, NYTimes.com/The Athletic, The Athletic app, and the NYT News app as places to play. The daily game releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. Sports Edition follows the same rules as Connections and is brought to solvers by The Athletic. The Help Center currently says Sports Edition does not have an archive, so it does not offer a way to replay this specific past puzzle there. Availability and access details can change. Check the current NYT Help Center information.
