NYT Connections for Tuesday, October 7, 2025, is puzzle #849. The four groups are hinted at by tittle-tattle, a wedding ceremony, a squad, and Broadway hits with an added first letter. Read only as far as you need; the complete groups are below a spoiler break.

Tiles in today’s puzzle

The board contains these 16 words:

BUZZ, CREW, FANNIE, PACK, RING, TALK, CHAIR, CAKE, DIRT, GROUP, BRENT, SCATS, BOUQUET, BUNCH, DISH, ALTAR.

Hints without the category names

  • Yellow: Tittle-tattle.
  • Green: Feature in a ceremony.
  • Blue: Squad.
  • Purple: Broadway hits with something extra.

  • Yellow — GOSSIP: BUZZ, DIRT, DISH, TALK.
  • Green — SEEN AT A WEDDING: ALTAR, BOUQUET, CAKE, RING.

  • Purple — MUSICALS PLUS STARTING LETTER: BRENT, CHAIR, FANNIE, SCATS.

How the purple group works

Each purple tile adds a starting letter to a musical title: BRENT is RENT with B added; CHAIR is HAIR with C; FANNIE is ANNIE with F; and SCATS is CATS with S.
