Use these group clues before revealing the answers:

  • Yellow: Settings
  • Green: Ways to get away from someone
  • Blue: The 23rd letter of the alphabet
  • Purple: Add a ropey word that rhymes with “thing”

Blue WHAT “W” MIGHT STAND FOR TUNGSTEN, WATT, WEST, WIN

How the groups fit together

Yellow: cellphone modes

AIRPLANE, DO NOT DISTURB, RING, and VIBRATE are cellphone modes or alert settings.

Green: evade

DODGE, ESCAPE, LOSE, and SHAKE can describe ways to evade someone. For example, to shake a pursuer is to get away from them.

Blue: what “W” might stand for

TUNGSTEN, WATT, WEST, and WIN are words that can be represented by the letter W. TechRadar notes that tungsten is also known as wolfram in many countries.

Purple: ___string

Place STRING after each word to form DRAWSTRING, HAMSTRING, HEARTSTRING, and SHOESTRING.
