Why the purple group works
The trick is to look at the first two letters, which spell possessive determiners: her in HERRING, his in HISTAMINE, my in MYSTERY, and our in OUROBOROS. The remaining groups draw on curses, wording from the Christmas poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” and pieces of Earring Magic Ken’s outfit.
