- Yellow: Ways to sign off a letter.
- Green: Without or lacking.
- Blue: Vigor or energy.
- Purple: Words that come before “strip.”
What are the Connections answers for May 10, 2025?
The four groups for Saturday’s puzzle are:
- Yellow — LETTER SIGN-OFFS: BEST, CHEERS, LOVE, SINCERELY
- Green — WITHOUT: ABSENT, MINUS, SANS, WANTING
- Blue — VIGOR: BEANS, ENERGY, PEP, ZIP
- Purple — ___ STRIP: BACON, COMIC, LANDING, SUNSET
Why the trickiest words fit
In the green group, “wanting” means lacking. In the blue group, “beans” is associated with pep or energy. The purple words pair with “strip” to make familiar phrases: bacon strip, comic strip, landing strip and Sunset Strip. Player discussion noted these words as possible sticking points; those comments are anecdotal, not a measure of how difficult the puzzle was for everyone.
How Connections works
Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four based on a shared theme. The groups are color-coded from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest. Some words may seem to fit more than one theme, but the puzzle has one intended solution. The New York Times says its editors curate the words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. When and where can you play?
The daily puzzle becomes available at midnight in each player’s timezone, so “today’s” puzzle can depend on where you are. You can play on the New York Times Games website and apps. NYT says the ordinary daily game is free to play without an account. Its archive goes back to June 12, 2023, but replaying archived puzzles requires an All Access or Games subscription; check the current terms if you want to revisit #699. NYT Help Center: Connections
