How NYT Connections works

Connections presents 16 words. The goal is to sort them into four groups of four that share a connection. The groups use four colors: Yellow is generally the easiest, followed by Green and Blue, while Purple is the trickiest. Words can seem to fit more than one category, but each puzzle has one intended solution. See the NYT Help Center’s Connections guide for the official rules.

The daily game is free to play across platforms and releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. The full puzzle archive is available to All Access and Games subscribers, according to the NYT Help Center.
