Spoilers ahead for NYT Connections puzzle #267, dated March 4, 2024. Start with the hints below if you want a nudge; the four category names and complete word groups follow.

Hints for Connections #267

  • Yellow: Think of rooms found in the board game Clue.
  • Green: These words can each mean a colleague.
  • Blue: Look for things associated with Easter.
  • Purple: Consider the different meanings of “mole.”

Answers for March 4, 2024

The March 4 puzzle was #267. Its four groups are:

Color Category Words
Yellow Rooms in the game Clue HALL, LIBRARY, LOUNGE, STUDY
Green Colleague ASSOCIATE, FELLOW, PARTNER, PEER
Blue Seen during Easter BUNNY, EGG, JELLY BEAN, PEEP
Purple What a mole can be ANIMAL, BIRTHMARK, SPY, UNIT

Why the mole category is tricky

“Mole” can refer to an animal, a birthmark, an undercover spy, or a unit of amount. The purple group uses all four meanings, so the words look unrelated until you shift from one definition to another.

How Connections works

The New York Times Help Center describes Connections as a game in which players receive 16 words and sort them into four groups of four that share something in common. The colors indicate rising difficulty: yellow is easiest and purple is trickiest. Some words may appear to fit more than one group, but each puzzle has one solution. Read the NYT Help Center’s Connections guide.

Daily puzzle and archive access

Connections releases a new daily puzzle at midnight in the player’s timezone. The NYT Help Center says the game is free to play, while its archive—available back to June 12, 2023—is for All Access and Games subscribers. The Help Center lists the Games app, Connections website, nytimes.com/theathletic, and News app as places to play.
