The four categories and their words are:
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Expressionless | BLANK, FLAT, INANIMATE, WOODEN |
| Green | Drapery hanging items | BRACKET, CURTAIN, HOOK, ROD |
| Blue | What a drink is served with | COASTER, GARNISH, GLASS, STRAW |
| Purple | Starting with methods of transportation | BUSBOY, CARBON, SHIPSHAPE, TRAINEE |
How the purple group works
The purple connection is a word-start trick: BUSBOY begins with BUS, CARBON with CAR, SHIPSHAPE with SHIP, and TRAINEE with TRAIN. Those beginnings are transportation words embedded in the longer answers; the four full words are not themselves modes of transport.
