Hints for Connections #216

Read these from least to most revealing. Stop before the answer key if you want to solve the groups yourself.

  1. If your name ain’t on the list… Think about what gets you through the door.
  2. In charge. Look for verbs meaning to preside over something.
  3. America’s game. Find four positions in American football.
  4. Reschedule. Each word can mean to postpone or delay.

One extra nudge: TABLE is not being used as a piece of furniture.

Answers for January 13, 2024

Color Category Words
Yellow Credentials for entry Badge, Invite, Pass, Ticket
Green Preside over Chair, Direct, Lead, Run
Blue American football positions Center, End, Safety, Tackle
Purple Postpone Hold, Punt, Stall, Table

Why the overlaps are tricky

TABLE and Chair can both look like furniture, but they belong to different groups: Table means postpone, while Chair means preside over. The football-related words can also pull attention in the wrong direction. Center, End, Safety, and Tackle are the positions; Pass is an entry credential, and Run means to preside over.

That split reflects the game’s central challenge: Connections asks players to sort sixteen words into four groups of four, and plausible overlapping associations can obscure the intended themes. Tom’s Guide’s January 13, 2024 guide and Fortnite Insider’s January 13, 2024 answer guide independently list these #216 categories and words.
