Connections #930 answers
| Category | Words |
|---|---|
| Airline Classes | BUSINESS, ECONOMY, FIRST, PREMIUM |
| Attribute | CITE, CREDIT, NAME, REFERENCE |
| Vocation | CALLING, CRAFT, LINE, TRADE |
| Ending with Alcoholic Beverages | DECIDER, NAMESAKE, REPORT, VILLAGER |
How the purple group works
The purple answers each end with the name of an alcoholic beverage: DECIDER ends in CIDER, NAMESAKE in SAKE, REPORT in PORT, and VILLAGER in LAGER. The full words are the answers; the beverage names are the shared wordplay.
A useful trap to watch for
BUSINESS and TRADE can both suggest commerce or work, but they belong to different groups here: BUSINESS is an airline class, while TRADE is a vocation. In the purple group, focus on the ending of each whole word rather than its overall meaning.

About this answer key
DocumentaryTube’s search-result guide identifies the date and puzzle number. Parade’s December 27 guide and Forbes’ December 26 guide, which describes the next day’s puzzle, corroborate the categories and answer words. The original NYT puzzle page was not available among the sources reviewed, so this key is attributed to those guides rather than presented as a direct check against an official answer sheet.
Connections asks players to sort sixteen words into four groups of four; groups may be based on meaning or wordplay, and plausible overlaps can create misleading paths. The game’s general format is described in an encyclopedia entry.
