Spoilers: The full solution to puzzle #552 is below.
#1 Best Overall
- Yellow — FISH: FLUKE, MULLET, SOLE, TANG
- Green — WORDS IN AN AUCTION-ENDING PHRASE: GOING, ONCE, SOLD, TWICE
- Blue — GLOBAL CURRENCIES: POUND, REAL, SOL, YUAN
- Purple — WORDS BEFORE “CUP”: BUTTER, DIVA, SOLO, WORLD
Why the grid can mislead
SOLE, SOL, and SOLO look related at a glance, but each belongs to a different group: SOLE is a fish, SOL is a currency, and SOLO completes “solo cup.” Look for the category each word actually fits rather than grouping by spelling alone.
How difficult was #552?
TechRadar described the puzzle as “Moderate” and reported that its writer scored it perfectly. Yahoo’s indexed result reported a 3/5 Connections Companion rating. These are separate assessments from different sources, not an official or universal difficulty score.
