Why the puzzle number differs by archive

WordHint labels its April 5 entry puzzle #299, while Wordle.today labels the same date #298. Both archives list the same four category names, so the numbering discrepancy is metadata rather than evidence of two different answer sets. Use the date to identify this puzzle.

How Connections works

In Connections, players divide a bank of 16 terms into four groups of four, with each group linked by a shared theme. The groups are arranged from less to more complex, and overlapping meanings or plausible distractors can make the intended connections harder to spot. This description comes from the 2024 paper Missed Connections: Lateral Thinking Puzzles for Large Language Models by Graham Todd, Tim Merino, Sam Earle, and Julian Togelius. The answer groups above are listed by third-party archives; no official NYT explanation or difficulty rating for this particular puzzle is established here.
