How Connections works

Connections presents 16 words and asks players to sort them into four groups of four based on a shared connection. The groups are color-coded: yellow is the easiest and purple the trickiest. Because words can appear to fit more than one category, working through hints before revealing the answers helps preserve the puzzle’s challenge. The New York Times Help Center explains the game and its access details.

Where to play this older puzzle

The daily game releases at midnight in the player’s timezone and is available free on NYT Games platforms, according to the Help Center. Access to the Connections archive is limited to All Access and Games subscribers; the Help Center says the archive reaches back to June 12, 2023. Since this puzzle is dated April 16, 2025, eligible subscribers can look for it in that archive.
