Is Stephen Fry a Norwich City fan?
Yes. Fry grew up in Norfolk supporting Norwich City. He later took on a formal role at Carrow Road, serving on the club’s board from 2010 to 2016, according to Norwich City. The Eastern Daily Press also reported that he worked as a club ambassador and was honorary president of Proud Canaries at the time of its profile.
Those roles are part of Fry’s history with the club; they do not mean he is currently a board member. His connection is notable because it spans both lifelong support and direct involvement with Norwich City.

1. Delia Smith
The cook and television presenter is described by the Eastern Daily Press as Norwich’s “most recognised supporter.” Her connection went well beyond cheering from the stands: she and her husband, Michael Wynn-Jones, became directors and majority shareholders. In a 1999 interview with The Independent, Smith described their emotional attachment to the club and explained why they put their money into it.
Smith and Wynn-Jones sold their majority share in 2025 and retained a minority stake, ITV reported. That distinction matters: Smith remains closely associated with Norwich City, but should not be described as its current majority owner.

2. Stephen Fry
Fry is an actor, writer and comedian whose Norwich support began while he was growing up in Norfolk. His 2010–2016 board service gives his connection a formal chapter as well as a personal one. The club’s record of his board dates is available at Norwich City.
3. Hugh Jackman
The Australian actor has said his mother’s Norwich connection drew him to the Canaries, and he has visited Carrow Road. In a report dated 3 September 2026, ITV said Jackman had confirmed he was in talks to buy a stake in the club; Norwich City confirmed discussions were ongoing. Talks are not a completed purchase, and the reported status is tied to that date.

In the same report, Jackman backed Norwich while commenting on Ryan Reynolds: “Good on Ryan, you do your thing. I’m all about the Canaries.”
4. Ed Balls
The former Labour politician and broadcaster chaired Norwich City from 2015 until stepping down in 2018, according to the Eastern Daily Press. The paper also reports that he remains a supporter and regularly attends matches. His chairmanship is a past club role, distinct from ownership.

5. Justin Hawkins
Hawkins, lead singer of The Darkness, has a personal connection to the Canaries as well as the band’s reported support for Norwich. The Eastern Daily Press recounts his memories of watching Norwich players Robert Fleck and Robert Rosario. Hawkins has put the link between the club and the band plainly: “I always feel like when Norwich do well, The Darkness does well”.

Philip Pullman is a strong alternative if the emphasis is on a deep, documented connection rather than international celebrity recognition. The Norwich-born author is a lifelong Canaries supporter and wrote the foreword to the club’s official history book, the Eastern Daily Press reports. Broadcasters Jake Humphrey and Simon Thomas are also named in the paper’s profile of celebrity supporters.

Ed Sheeran should not be added to a Norwich supporters list: the Eastern Daily Press identifies him as an Ipswich Town fan and shirt sponsor. His name belongs in a rivalry comparison, not as evidence of support for Norwich City.
