North West was shown eating a raw onion like an apple in a kitchen scene with her mother, Kim Kardashian, on The Kardashians. Entertainment Tonight reported that North was 10 at the time; Kim’s reaction, and the unusual snack, quickly became a viral celebrity moment.
What happened in the scene?
The November 2023 episode showed Kim and North cooking together. Entertainment Tonight described North eating a raw onion, while BET and Delish specified that it was unpeeled. BET says the pair were making sushi and fried chicken.
Entertainment Tonight quoted Kim asking, “You’re just going to eat an onion like an apple?” She also remarked, “This is what she does, people, she eats veggies like apples.” The report says Kim reacted to the onion’s strong smell and North’s onion breath.
Why did people react?
Eating an unpeeled raw onion as if it were fruit is an unexpected sight, and the moment drew social-media comments that entertainment outlets reproduced. BET, for example, quoted one user saying, “The fact that North West eats onions like they’re apples tells me all I need to know.” Delish also shared examples of audience posts.
