Spoilers for Seasons 1 and 2. Yes, Nobody Wants This got a Season 2, and its finale moved Joanne and Noah’s story beyond the cliffhanger of the first season. As of October 4, 2026, Netflix has also announced Season 3, scheduled to premiere October 10, 2026; it has not premiered yet.
What happens at the end of Season 1?
Joanne is not ready to convert to Judaism, and the difference between her and Noah appears to bring their relationship to a breaking point. After a bat mitzvah, Noah runs after her and kisses her. The moment is a choice to keep pursuing Joanne, not proof that their religious, family or career conflicts have been settled.
Adam Brody described Noah’s promise as meaning, “I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I’m saying that you are my priority.” But Brody also noted the uncertainty ahead: “In the light of day, will he still feel that way? I don’t know.” That tension is the point of the ending: Noah recommits in the moment, while the consequences of that choice remain open. Netflix’s Season 1 finale explainer
Did Season 2 happen?
Yes. Season 2 continued the story and tested what Noah’s Season 1 promise would mean in practice. Netflix’s official Season 2 preview set up the strain between Joanne’s uncertainty about conversion and Noah’s family and professional life. The stakes became concrete when Noah was passed over for head rabbi at his temple because Joanne was not ready to convert, according to the Associated Press.

Does Joanne convert, and are she and Noah still together?
In the Season 2 finale, Joanne decides to convert, while Noah realizes he wants to be with her regardless of what she chooses. Netflix’s ending explainer frames the decision as Joanne’s own, rather than a conversion she makes simply to keep the relationship. Noah’s acceptance matters: the ending does not make her religious choice a condition of his love.
So, by the end of Season 2, Joanne and Noah are together and recommitted. Their story has not been reduced to a simple answer about whether one partner changes for the other; the finale leaves room for Joanne’s developing beliefs and Noah’s acceptance to coexist.

The Associated Press reported in 2025 that Netflix said the first season drew 57 million views in three months, and that it spent six weeks on Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV List. The 57 million figure is Netflix’s audience figure as reported by AP, not an independent AP measurement.

AP also reported criticism that some portrayals of Jewish women and religious life leaned on stereotypes. Rabbi Elan Babchuck, executive vice president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, told AP, “I celebrate the show. I think representation matters across the board, even when it’s in flawed form.” Creator Erin Foster told AP that the production employed a rabbi consultant who read every script and attended the writers’ room. These are different perspectives on a fictional series, not evidence that it represents Jewish life as a whole. Associated Press coverage of Season 2 and the show’s reception
