He spoke about hostages held in Gaza, the loss of innocent life in Palestine, and the hope that Israelis and Palestinians could live harmoniously. He did not explicitly name the sticker video at the center of some of the online backlash.
What Noah Schnapp said in his January 16 statement
In the TikTok statement, Schnapp said conversations with friends of Palestinian background had been important to him and had taught him a lot. He described what he wanted to say as a personal clarification:
“I feel like my thoughts and beliefs have been so far misconstrued from anything even close to what I believe, and I wanted to just state from my heart how I feel.”
He also said, “I only want peace, and safety, and security for all innocent people affected by this conflict.” He referred to hopes for the return of hostages in Gaza and an end to the loss of innocent life in Palestine, and expressed hope that Israelis and Palestinians could live harmoniously in the region. Teen Vogue’s January 16, 2024 report transcribed the statement.

Why the remark drew backlash
The controversy unfolded amid criticism of Schnapp’s earlier public comments and a video that circulated in November 2023. The video showed other people displaying stickers reading “Zionism is sexy” and “Hamas is ISIS.” Reports connected the clip to the online response to Schnapp, but it is important to describe his role precisely.
The Independent amended its account on January 30, 2024 to clarify that Schnapp appeared in the video but did not share it or personally handle the stickers. The Forward’s January 17 report and correction likewise clarified that there was one such video and that the relationship between Schnapp and the others shown was unclear.

Did he address the sticker video directly?
No. Teen Vogue reported that Schnapp’s January 16 statement did not mention the sticker clip directly. The outlet also reported that, after the TikTok appeared, some commenters continued to call for a boycott while others questioned the timing of the post. Those were reactions reported by the outlet, not evidence of a uniform response from viewers or fans.
