Nintendo later listed Switch 2 Editions of both games. The dated statement was a plan, not a claim that either game would be exclusive to the original Switch.
What Nintendo said in February 2025
During Nintendo’s February 4, 2025 quarterly results briefing Q&A, Furukawa identified the two games as announced Nintendo Switch titles scheduled for release in 2025. His answer also addressed the transition to new hardware: Nintendo wanted to release appealing Switch software if it could develop it, while noting that dedicated software is important when launching new hardware.

An English translation of Furukawa’s answer, reproduced by BGR from Nintendo’s Japanese Q&A, reads: “As of now, we have announced Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as titles for the Nintendo Switch scheduled for release in 2025.” Nintendo’s official Q&A is the primary source for the statement; BGR’s February 5, 2025 report provides the English rendering.
Furukawa’s qualification matters: he said Nintendo would release attractive Switch software “if we can develop it,” and he emphasized the importance of software for new hardware. The answer did not promise a broad, continuing slate of new original-Switch games.

No. The February Q&A identified the games as planned Nintendo Switch titles; it did not say they would be exclusive to that console. Nintendo’s later list names Switch 2 Editions of both games. These are separate pieces of information: the Q&A records what Nintendo said about its 2025 Switch plans at the time, while the later list records Switch 2 Edition listings.

Nintendo says compatible physical and digital Switch games can be played on Switch 2, but warns that some titles may be unsupported or not fully compatible. That general compatibility statement does not, by itself, establish the details of a particular game edition.
