Her family announced her death, while later reporting described how she used social media to share her experience and advocate for women whose concerns can be overlooked.
Who was Nina Lopes?
Lopes was a mother and social media creator whose account, @frodayss, documented her life with breast cancer. PerthNow reported that her family’s announcement named her daughter Ilani. Her posts connected her with people facing similar experiences; in a 2026 interview, her sister-in-law Victoria Harper described the account as a source of support and information.
Reports give differing follower totals, apparently reflecting different platforms or dates. PerthNow described more than 100,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok, while The Independent referred to tens of thousands and used a 70,000 figure in an image caption. Neither figure should be treated as a definitive total.
What happened to @frodayss?
PerthNow reported that Lopes was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in July 2018, when she was 36. The report said an initial assessment of a breast lump had not resolved her concern.

A 2022 SurvivorNet profile said Lopes completed chemotherapy, surgery and radiation in April 2019 and was told her cancer was gone. The same profile reported that the cancer returned and advanced to stage 4 in August 2021. These details come from that profile; the available reports do not provide a fuller clinical history.
Her family said she died peacefully on Sunday, 24 November 2024. PerthNow published its report on 29 November and gave her age as 42.

How did Lopes use her platform?
Lopes spoke about her experience and encouraged young women to pay attention to changes in their bodies and speak up when something concerned them. In SurvivorNet’s 2022 profile, she said: “I quite quickly connected to a lot of young women and it became important for me to remind them about checking their breasts and knowing their bodies, feeling empowered to know that if something is wrong, they can say something and ask for a second opinion.”
In a 2026 feature, Harper emphasized Lopes’s advocacy for young women and women of Black heritage, saying: “She fearlessly advocated for young women, and those of black heritage who are so often overlooked and underserved by the medical establishment in terms of diagnosis, medication and care.” The account of her advocacy is a personal and public legacy; the reporting does not establish a measured number of people reached or outcomes attributable to her work.

What her family said
PerthNow quoted the family’s announcement: “It is with deep sadness to share the news that our beautiful Nina passed away peacefully on Sunday 24th November,”
The family statement, as reported at the time, confirmed her death and the date. The later account from Harper adds context about how Lopes’s online presence supported awareness and community.
