Not Safe with Nikki Glaser was a 2016 Comedy Central talk show that mixed frank conversations about sex with comedian guests, field pieces and social experiments. Its first episode sent Glaser to a foot-fetish party, where she received a foot rub. The “plan to replace Valentine’s Day” part of the title needs a qualification: the available reporting documents a Valentine’s Day advice exchange and a later joke about “sidepiece night,” not a verified proposal to replace the holiday.
What was Not Safe with Nikki Glaser?
The Comedy Central series premiered February 9, 2016, according to Vanity Fair’s February 4, 2016, pre-launch profile. A Vogue interview published February 11 described it as Glaser’s new talk show and said it premiered that Tuesday.

The format moved between studio discussion and on-location experiments. Glaser and comedian guests talked openly about sex; the show also used interviews, field pieces and social experiments to explore sexual attitudes and experiences. Vanity Fair described the aim as investigating American eroticism, while Glaser told Esquire in September 2016, “I wanted to make a show that was incredibly sex-positive and informative about issues pertaining to it.”
In her Vanity Fair interview, Glaser said she wanted the program to help younger girls feel less pressured about sex and less ashamed of their bodies. That was her stated intention, not a measured claim about the show’s effect.

What happened at the foot-fetish party?
In the first episode, Glaser visited a party for people with foot fetishes and received a foot rub, as she recounted to Vogue. She said she was enjoying the experience until the participant became aroused; at that point, she felt uncomfortable and the moment ended for her.
The segment was not presented simply as a joke at someone else’s expense. In an April 2016 interview with The Washington Post, Glaser said she was proud of it because it captured the show’s approach: “understanding this new world, exploring this new world, being interested, not being judgmental and putting myself out there.” Her account also makes clear that curiosity did not mean she had to ignore her own discomfort.

Did Nikki Glaser have a plan to replace Valentine’s Day?
A literal plan to replace Valentine’s Day is not established by the cited material. What is documented is more limited and should not be conflated with a formal holiday proposal.
Her Valentine’s Day advice in Esquire
In an Esquire “Ask a Comedian” column published February 8, 2016, a reader asked for a new bedroom idea for Valentine’s Day. Glaser recommended the Hitachi Magic Wand. This was a specific response to that reader’s question, not evidence that the product appeared on Not Safe.

The “sidepiece night” joke
A transcript of the 2018 Girls Gotta Eat episode “What Turns You On?” records a joking exchange in which February 15 is called “sidepiece night.” The transcript is available at Podscripts. A comic remark in that conversation does not establish that Glaser had a serious plan to replace Valentine’s Day.

Glaser framed Not Safe as an exercise in being open and curious rather than imposing a judgment. Speaking to Vogue shortly after the premiere, she said, “I think with this show, I’m always trying to take a deep breath and do what comes naturally.” The foot-fetish segment illustrates both sides of that approach: she was willing to enter an unfamiliar setting, but also honest about where her comfort ended.
