Nicole Kidman opened Vogue World: Hollywood 2025 with a performance inspired by Rita Hayworth’s “Put the Blame on Mame” scene in Gilda. She then walked the runway in a custom Chanel dress as Baz Luhrmann directed the scene from behind a vintage camera. The event took place at the Paramount Pictures Studio lot in Los Angeles.
How Kidman opened the show
Kidman began backstage with a rendition of “Put the Blame on Mame,” the song associated with Hayworth’s character in the 1946 film Gilda. Vogue’s event report describes the performance as the start of the runway presentation.
The dress referenced Rita Hayworth’s Gilda look
For the runway, Kidman wore a custom black draped satin bustier dress by Chanel, decorated with black satin camellias. Vogue connected the design to the dress Hayworth wore in the song’s scene in Gilda. This was a custom look, not a retail Chanel item identified by the report. Vogue’s October 27, 2025 report details the performance and outfit.
Baz Luhrmann directed the runway moment
Luhrmann joined Kidman on the runway, positioned behind a vintage camera and calling directions through a megaphone. Vogue quotes him saying, “Hold that thought, keep the focus… and, cut!” The directing setup made the walk part of a film-inspired scene rather than a conventional runway entrance.

What is established about Anna Wintour’s role?
The headline’s “thanks to Baz Luhrmann, Anna Wintour” phrasing should not be read as proof that Wintour performed a particular action during Kidman’s opening. PerthNow names Wintour in a caption, but its October 27, 2025 coverage does not establish her specific role in this segment. Its report does corroborate that Kidman walked while Luhrmann directed her at the Paramount Pictures Studio lot. PerthNow’s coverage provides that event framing.

The opening drew on a recognizable film image: Kidman’s song and dress both pointed to Hayworth’s performance in Gilda. For viewers who want to see the source of the tribute, the 1946 film is the relevant reference; specific releases and current availability vary by seller.
