Nicki Minaj was arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on May 25, 2024, after Dutch authorities accused her of possessing soft drugs while she was attempting to leave the Netherlands. In an Instagram Live video, an officer tells her she is being detained “because you’re carrying drugs.” Minaj denied carrying drugs; the allegation was not a finding of guilt.
What happened at Schiphol Airport
A Dutch National Police source confirmed to ABC News that Minaj was arrested at Schiphol on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Dutch police described the matter as possession of soft drugs while attempting to leave the country. That was the authorities’ stated basis for the arrest, not an adjudication that Minaj knowingly carried drugs.

In the Instagram Live video she posted, an unnamed officer tells her she is being detained “because you’re carrying drugs,” as reported by CBS News and ABC News. The video records the officer’s words and Minaj’s reaction; it does not independently establish what was in the luggage or who owned it.
What officials confirmed
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee spokesperson Robert van Kapel confirmed to Forbes that a 41-year-old American woman had been arrested at Schiphol for possession of soft drugs. The spokesperson did not identify that woman by name in the confirmation. News outlets identified the arrested person as Minaj.

Minaj denied carrying drugs
Minaj denied the accusation during the livestream. According to her account, her bags were taken before she could inspect them, and she said the pre-rolls belonged to a member of her security team. The Los Angeles Times recounted those statements as Minaj’s account; they are not independently established facts in the reporting cited here.
CBS News reported that authorities said soft drugs were found in her luggage, and that the arrest was brief and followed by a fine. The reporting reviewed here does not establish the fine amount through a primary source, so no figure can be confirmed here.

The Manchester concert was postponed
Minaj was on her Pink Friday 2 tour, and her Manchester performance was scheduled for the evening of May 25. It was postponed after the events at Schiphol. Promoter Live Nation, quoted by The Guardian, said: “Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to make tonight’s show happen, the events of today have made it impossible.” That was the promoter’s explanation for postponing the performance, not a police or court finding.
