After the ceremony, Variety reported that Offerman was O’Brien’s choice. Oscars executive producer Rob Mills said: “But we knew Conan would definitely have an idea about who he wants, and his thought was Nick will be great at this. And obviously he was.” Variety’s report attributes the selection account to Mills.
Was Ronald Reagan the first Oscars announcer?
Mills made that connection in the same Variety report, saying: “Although I hadn’t realized, I guess the first announcer at the Oscars was Ronald Reagan, which I just learned.” The wording is Mills’s recollection, not confirmation from an Academy historical record. The Academy sources cited here verify Offerman’s appointment and the event details, but do not independently verify who first held the announcer role. It is therefore accurate to say Mills linked the role’s early history to Reagan, rather than to state as established fact that Reagan was its first announcer.

The ceremony took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The Academy’s official 2025 ceremony record confirms the date and venue and says the awards honored films released in 2024.

In its February 19 announcement, the Academy said the 2025 ceremony would be broadcast on ABC and streamed live on Hulu, with distribution in more than 200 territories worldwide. Those were the outlets and distribution plans announced for that event; they do not establish current replay availability on Hulu.
