When did The Last Five Years open on Broadway?
The production began previews at the Hudson Theatre on March 18, 2025, and held its opening night on April 6. Broadway Direct’s listing records June 22, 2025, as the closing date: Broadway Direct’s production listing. BroadwayWorld’s announcement also identifies the Hudson Theatre and the production’s dates: BroadwayWorld’s production announcement.
The title’s “returning” framing can be misleading: Jonas’s Broadway appearance in this musical was a 2025 engagement, not a currently running show or an announced upcoming return.
What is The Last Five Years about?
Jamie is a rising novelist and Cathy is an aspiring actress. The musical follows their five-year relationship through two timelines moving in opposite directions: Jamie’s story starts at the beginning and moves forward, while Cathy’s starts at the end and moves backward. Their accounts meet at their wedding, allowing the audience to compare how each experiences the relationship. The Associated Press describes the show’s contrasting timelines and premise in its coverage: Associated Press report.
