Netflix has published an official fall 2026 movie slate with four December titles, and a documentary on Jean-Michel Basquiat is the one most relevant to documentary viewers. For Max, Prime Video, and Hulu, no verified December 2026 movie lineup is available yet, so this guide cannot rank the best new movies across all four services. Everything below reflects U.S.-focused listings as of October 9, 2026, and dates can change before release.
Netflix: the confirmed December 2026 movies
Netflix Tudum’s “Every Movie Coming to Netflix in Fall 2026” is the only official source in this guide that lists specific December 2026 movie dates. The table shows each entry as the page describes it. Some items are theatrical releases, so check the access note before planning a viewing night.
| Title | Type and genre | Date on Tudum | Premise (paraphrased from the listing) | Access note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| In a Holidaze | Holiday romance | December 2 | A directionless young woman is caught in a holiday time loop at her family’s cabin. Cast listed: Maddie Ziegler, Graham Phillips, Patton Oswalt, and Rob Lowe. | Listed on Netflix’s fall slate. Subscription terms are not stated in the listing excerpt. |
| La bola negra | Drama, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi | December 2 (Tudum entry) | Three generations of men are followed through pivotal moments in Spanish history. | The same listing says it plays in select theaters from October 16. Its streaming date is not independently verified, so do not treat December 2 as a confirmed streaming debut. |
| Jean-Michel Basquiat | Documentary | December 11 | A reclamation of the artist’s legacy, built from memories shared by friends and family, archival imagery, and previously unseen works. | Listed on Netflix’s fall slate. Subscription terms are not stated in the listing excerpt. |
| Give Me Some Sugah | Drama | December 16 | Based on the story of Chicago bakery owner Lenore Lindsey, played by Taraji P. Henson. | Listed on Netflix’s fall slate. Subscription terms are not stated in the listing excerpt. |
Jean-Michel Basquiat
For documentary viewers, this is the most direct match among the confirmed December titles. The film’s approach, as Netflix describes it, is to assemble the artist’s story from the people who knew him rather than from a single narrator. Archival footage and previously unseen work form the visual core. The listing does not say whether it is a feature-length or a limited-run format, so check the runtime on the title page before you start.
In a Holidaze
This is the lightest of the four and the clearest choice for a seasonal comedy. Its time-loop premise is a familiar device, so viewers who enjoy holiday romances built around repetition will know what to expect.
#1 Best Overall
- As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
La bola negra and Give Me Some Sugah
These two are the drama picks. La bola negra covers three generations of men across Spanish history, and its theatrical window is listed before any December date. Give Me Some Sugah centers on a bakery owner and is the more personal of the two dramas. Neither listing includes reception data in the source material, so this guide does not rate either one.
Max, Prime Video, and Hulu: what can and cannot be confirmed
- Prime Video: Amazon’s official December list that surfaced in research is for December 2025. Its titles and dates do not apply to 2026, so this guide does not carry them forward.
- Max: No official December 2026 movie slate was found. The absence of a published list is not evidence that nothing will arrive.
- Hulu: No official December 2026 movie slate was found. As with Max, treat the lineup as unconfirmed, not empty.
Third-party calendars and their limits
FlixPatrol’s “New Movies on Streaming in 2026” page lists December 2026 movie and theatrical release dates. It is useful for finding titles to check, but it does not establish whether a film is included with a particular U.S. subscription, is available only to rent or buy, or is scheduled for another territory. Use it to build a watch list, then confirm each title on the service itself.
Rank #2

How to verify a title before you subscribe or rent
- Open the title’s page on the service and confirm the date and country shown there. Tudum and third-party calendars can differ from the live catalog.
- Look for a label that says the title is included with your plan or is a rental or purchase. If the label is missing, the listing does not confirm access.
- For theatrical titles such as La bola negra, check the streaming page separately. A theatrical date alone does not mean the film is on a streaming service.
- Recheck the page a few days before the date, because December schedules are the most likely to shift.
Verdict for documentary viewers
Of the confirmed December 2026 titles, Jean-Michel Basquiat is the one to prioritize on Netflix. The other three are useful for mood-based choices, but the Netflix listing alone does not establish their subscription terms or streaming dates. Max, Prime Video, and Hulu need their own verified lists before any cross-service ranking is possible.
