UNTOLD: The Liver King is a documentary about Brian Johnson, the online personality known as the Liver King, and the gap between his “all-natural” fitness branding and the steroid allegations described in coverage of the film. BGR reported that the documentary premiered on Netflix on May 13, 2025. Its account presents the film not simply as a fitness story, but as a portrait of an internet persona under scrutiny.
What is UNTOLD: The Liver King about?
In its May 11, 2025 article, BGR describes the documentary as a look at Johnson’s public image, the growth of his online fame, and the controversy surrounding claims that conflicted with his “all-natural” presentation. The film’s subject is the identity Johnson built as the Liver King, including his shirtless videos and promotion of “ancestral tenets” and raw organ meat.
That description is BGR’s account of the documentary’s framing. It should not be read as independent proof of the underlying allegations or as a clinical assessment of Johnson.
Who appears in the documentary?
BGR reports that the film includes interviews with Johnson, members of his family, and people associated with his supplement business. The article does not establish what each person says or resolve the disputed claims; it presents the range of interviewees as part of a broader examination of the persona and the life around it.

Why does the film compare with Tiger King?
The title’s Tiger King comparison is promotional framing, not a factual claim that the documentaries cover similar subjects. BGR characterizes UNTOLD: The Liver King as a character study and a story about influencer culture: what can happen when a carefully performed online identity becomes closely tied to the person presenting it. The article also raises questions about the effect of Johnson’s public persona on his wife and children, but does not establish a particular family outcome.
What does director Joe Pearlman say about influencer reach?
BGR identifies Joe Pearlman as the director and attributes this observation to him: “We live in a time when someone can reach hundreds of millions of people without going through any kind of traditional gatekeeping. No background checks: Just a phone and a guy.” The remark expresses Pearlman’s view of the power and lack of traditional gatekeeping in online fame; it is not a verified audience measurement for Johnson.
