The renewal details and episode estimate come from secondary reports relaying comments by Netflix executive Francisco “Paco” Ramos and producer Matías Mosteirin.
What is The Eternaut about?
The Eternaut (El Eternauta) is an Argentine science-fiction survival series released on Netflix on April 30, 2025, according to IMDb’s index of Film Fugitives coverage. Its story follows survivors facing a deadly snowfall and an alien threat. The series adapts the graphic novel of the same name, written by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and illustrated by Francisco Solano López, first published from 1957 to 1959.

Was The Eternaut renewed for season 2?
Secondary reporting described a rapid season-two renewal after the first season’s release. IMDb’s indexed excerpt relays comments attributed to Netflix Latin American programming executive Francisco “Paco” Ramos, who said, “Season 2 is going to be very important.” The same excerpt says the next season will expand on science-fiction concepts introduced in season one.
That is evidence of a reported renewal and creative direction, but the material available here does not include a directly inspected Netflix announcement or the underlying Deadline report. It does not establish a current production schedule or release date.

What’s the catch with season 2?
The reported plan is to finish the story in season two. A renewal can signal another installment without promising an open-ended franchise; in this case, the coverage frames the next season as the conclusion of The Eternaut’s story. A CBR version indexed by IMDb likewise described season two as intended to bring the story to a close.
Producer Matías Mosteirin was quoted as saying the team expected to close the whole story “with probably eight more episodes.” “Probably” matters: this is a projected episode count, not a confirmed order.

What is known about season 2’s timing?
An April 14, 2026 ScreenRant report excerpt surfaced by IMDb said season two was in advanced development and that filming had not yet started at that time. That is a dated status report, not confirmation of the present production stage. The material reviewed does not give a confirmed season-two release date. See the IMDb-indexed ScreenRant report excerpt for the dated update.
The clearest takeaway is limited but useful: reporting described a season-two renewal, with the season intended to conclude the story; the reported eight-episode figure remains an estimate, and no release date is established here.
