Its cleverness is less about a clearly explained time-machine rulebook than about what the jump reveals: Nora flourishes in a society more open to her abilities, while Héctor struggles to find his footing. The future tests their marriage as much as their scientific discovery.
What is Our Times about?
Netflix’s official premise follows visionary physicists Nora and Héctor, who accidentally travel from 1966 to 2025. The shift drops the couple into a world where technology and social expectations have changed. Nora encounters greater acceptance of her abilities and women’s empowerment; Héctor has difficulty adapting. Their central choice is whether Nora will return to the past with the man she loves or embrace the future ahead of her. Netflix Media Center’s synopsis establishes that conflict without spelling out the machine’s mechanics.
Netflix classifies the film as sci-fi and also lists it among Mexican and romantic-comedy films. Its tags include time travel, social issues, romance, and comedy, while its descriptive labels call the film whimsical and bittersweet. Those categories point to a story that uses a speculative premise for personal and social stakes, rather than promising a technical puzzle about how time travel works. Netflix’s title page lists Lucero, Benny Ibarra, and Renata Vaca among the cast.
Why the time-travel premise works as a relationship test
The jump from 1966 to 2025 gives Nora and Héctor a shared displacement but not a shared response. Nora sees possibilities in the changed world; Héctor struggles to adjust. That difference turns the science-fiction setup into a pressure test for a marriage: the same future that offers Nora room to grow may threaten the life the couple expected to return to.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is where the film can feel smart about time-travel conventions without needing to explain every mechanism. The premise’s most consequential question is not simply how the couple got to the future, but what they do when the future changes what each of them wants. The 1966-to-2025 leap makes social change visible through the spouses’ contrasting experiences, then keeps the emotional consequences at the center.
What the film does—and does not—establish about time-travel rules
Netflix’s synopsis confirms an accidental trip from 1966 to 2025. It does not establish how the time machine works, whether Nora and Héctor can repeat the journey, what limits govern it, or what would happen if they changed past events. So claims that the story breaks a specific time-travel rule need to be grounded in the film’s scenes, not inferred from the official premise alone.

On the available evidence, the defensible point is narrower and more interesting: Our Times uses one leap forward to bring its characters face to face with changed technology and social norms, then makes their relationship the focal consequence. It treats the future less as a rule system to decode than as a world in which the couple must decide who they can become.
How one review reads the film
A Tom’s Guide review published June 16, 2025, likewise describes the film as a futureward time-travel romance shaped by how two people adapt to a changed world. The reviewer found the first portion engaging but felt the third act moved hurriedly and the ending did not fully land. That is one critic’s assessment, not a measure of wider critical or audience consensus.
