IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond reportedly said Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Narnia film and its IMAX partnership could “really” change the world. That is Gelfond’s optimistic opinion—not a verified outcome or an independent assessment of the film. The available reports identify the project as an adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew, but do not establish its current release schedule.
What did the IMAX CEO say about the Narnia movie?
At IMAX Investors Day, Gelfond was reported as saying: “Because I think, as I said before, that it’s really going to change the world.” NarniaWeb attributed the remark to him in its December 4, 2025 report, describing his enthusiasm for the film and the IMAX partnership. The report located for this article does not include an official Investors Day transcript, so the quotation is best treated as a reported statement rather than a transcript independently confirmed here. NarniaWeb’s report also presents the remark in the context of the project.
What the comment does—and does not—tell us
It is a prediction, not a measured result
“Change the world” is Gelfond’s expression of confidence in the film’s potential and cultural impact. It is not a measurable claim about audience response, box office, or the film’s eventual influence. The statement cannot establish whether viewers will regard the movie as a major cultural event.
Netflix has described the IMAX run as a limited event
On Netflix’s Q4 2024 earnings call, co-CEO Ted Sarandos called the Narnia IMAX release “a release tactic” and described it as a “two-week special event.” He said it did not signal a broader change in Netflix’s theatrical strategy, which he characterized as giving Netflix members exclusive first-run movies on Netflix. These comments were made before the release schedule was resolved in the sources available here. Read the earnings-call transcript.

Which Narnia story is Greta Gerwig adapting?
The project is reported to be Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew. That identifies the source novel; it does not confirm additional plot details, cast information, or how the film will handle the book. Readers who want to explore the source can read the novel itself, rather than assume that any edition is an official movie tie-in. NarniaWeb’s December 2025 report identifies the book.
Is the release date confirmed?
The sources do not establish a current official date for either the theatrical release or Netflix streaming. NarniaWeb’s December 2025 report describes a November release, while a 2026 listing from the Giant Screen Cinema Association gives November 26, 2026. Those reports do not resolve the schedule, and the material available here does not include a current official Netflix or IMAX announcement confirming the dates or the precise IMAX-exclusive window. The association listing is an entry, not enough on its own to settle the release details. See the Giant Screen Cinema Association listing.
