Hit Man joined Netflix in select countries on June 7, 2024. The Strangers: Chapter 1 arrived that day as a digital rental and purchase—not as a confirmed Netflix subscription title. These are historical release details, not a guide to what is streaming now.
Where each movie was released
| Movie | June 2024 release | Channel | What viewers needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hit Man | June 7, following select theatrical screenings from May 24, 2024 | Netflix in select countries | A Netflix subscription in a country where the film was available. Netflix did not identify every included country in the cited release guide. Netflix’s 2024 release guide |
| The Strangers: Chapter 1 | June 7, 2024 | Digital rental or purchase | A rental or purchase through a digital retailer; this release report does not establish Netflix subscription availability. ComicBook.com’s June 6, 2024 report |
The phrase “new to streaming” can blur subscription services and digital storefronts. In this week’s releases, only Hit Man was specifically reported as a Netflix arrival; the other film’s digital release meant viewers could rent or buy it.

Hit Man: a Netflix comedy about an undercover fake killer
Richard Linklater directed this 2024 comedy, starring Glen Powell as Gary Johnson, a professor who works undercover for the New Orleans Police Department by posing as a contract killer. Adria Arjona also stars. Netflix’s title page identifies the film’s premise, director, and cast: Netflix: Hit Man.
Netflix’s release guide dated the film’s arrival on its service in select countries to June 7, 2024, after select theatrical screenings began May 24. The “select countries” qualification matters: the announcement does not establish that it was available on Netflix everywhere.

The Strangers: Chapter 1: digital rental and purchase
The abbreviated title “The Strangers” refers here to The Strangers: Chapter 1, the 2024 horror film directed by Renny Harlin and starring Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez. A June 6, 2024 report said it would reach digital retailers June 7; a June 7 report described it as available to rent or buy digitally. ComicBook.com and /Film covered that release window.
The 2024 report also described planned DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD editions, with preorder paths. That historical information does not confirm that a particular format or retailer listing is still available now.

What “new this week” means—and what it does not
These dates describe the release week around June 7, 2024. They do not establish either film’s October 2026 catalog status, current digital prices, or availability in a particular country. Streaming and retailer rights can vary by territory and change over time; check the service or storefront in your country for current listings before subscribing, renting, or buying.
Contemporary listings support the original distinction: JustWatch’s U.S. June 2024 guide included Hit Man on June 7, while the Associated Press’s 2024 summer guide listed it among June Netflix releases and identified The Strangers: Chapter 1 as a Lionsgate theatrical film. Those dated guides corroborate the release context, not today’s availability: JustWatch’s June 2024 U.S. guide and Associated Press’s 2024 summer guide.
