Set in 1990, it follows a bullied gay teenager and his best friend as they enter Marine Corps boot camp. Netflix Tudum reported that the show had spent four weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 by November 10, 2025; that platform-reported milestone does not provide a viewer count or show whether it remains in the chart.
What is Boots about?
Boots follows Cameron Cope, a bullied teenager who impulsively joins the Marines alongside Ray, his straight best friend. The two begin recruit training in 1990, where Cameron must navigate a military environment in which being gay carried severe consequences. Netflix describes the series as a comedy-drama, combining the pressures of boot camp with a coming-of-age story.

The show uses a fictionalized version of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. It is a scripted drama, not a documentary or a factual account of an individual recruit’s training. Netflix Tudum’s series explainer describes the premise and fictionalized setting.
Who is the 13 Reasons Why actor in Boots?
Miles Heizer leads the series as Cameron Cope. He previously played Alex Standall in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Netflix’s 2023 announcement of Boots identified Heizer as its star and described the series as an eight-episode drama.

Is Boots based on a true story?
Boots is inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine, but the series presents a fictionalized story. Its characters and events should not be treated as a documentary record of Marine Corps training. Netflix Tudum explains the connection between the show and White’s memoir in its series explainer.
The book behind the series
The Pink Marine is the most direct way to explore the memoir connection. The series adapts inspiration from White’s account rather than presenting itself as a scene-by-scene nonfiction retelling.

Why are viewers talking about it?
Netflix Tudum reported on November 10, 2025, that Boots had been in Netflix’s Top 10 for four weeks. This is a time-bounded, platform-reported chart duration: the cited explainer does not give a viewer total, precise chart dates, ranking positions, or a chart geography. It therefore supports saying the title had a sustained run in Netflix’s chart at that point, not that a particular number of people watched it or that it remains popular now.
