NCIS: Tony & Ziva is worth watching if you’re here for Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s chemistry—and willing to trade the original series’ weekly cases for a serialized European spy thriller. Tony and Ziva return not as colleagues circling an unresolved romance, but as co-parents whose old tensions are now tangled up with a family on the run. That shift gives their relationship room to grow, even as the conspiracy plot proves less distinctive than the reunion.
What is NCIS: Tony & Ziva about?
The series picks up with Tony and Ziva raising their daughter, Tali, in Paris. When Tony’s security company is attacked, the family flees across Europe while trying to discover who is behind the threat. The setup moves the familiar characters out of the NCIS workplace and into a sustained story about danger, trust, and family.

Season one has 10 episodes. Paramount+ premiered the first three on September 4, 2025, then released new episodes weekly on Thursdays through the October 23 finale. Paramount+’s series page provides the official premise and release information.
Is it like the original NCIS?
Not in its basic storytelling rhythm. This is not a weekly investigation with a familiar ensemble returning to the bullpen. Showrunner John McNamara described the series as a deliberate move away from the procedural: “We agreed that it wasn’t going to be a procedural, and it was going to shoot in Europe. The characters live in Paris, and rather than a case of the week or a murder mystery, it was going to involve international espionage,” he told The Daily Beast.

Instead, the season follows one escalating international plot. McNamara said a continuous story, with rising pressure and stakes, seemed best suited to putting strain on Tony and Ziva’s relationship. The approach gives the romance and co-parenting conflict more room than a case-of-the-week structure might, but viewers who mainly want the original show’s investigations and ensemble dynamic may miss them.
Do Tony and Ziva still have chemistry?
Yes—their chemistry is the show’s clearest strength. Weatherly and de Pablo bring years of unresolved history to scenes that might otherwise be ordinary exchanges between two people under pressure. Now their connection has to operate in the present tense: they are responsible for a daughter, faced with practical choices, and forced to rely on one another while danger closes in. The romantic tension is no longer just a promise the series can defer; it has consequences for a family.
The characters have changed, too. Tony is a father and the head of his own security company, rather than the younger agent shaped by the original ensemble. Weatherly told The Daily Beast, “Now, he is the father of the daughter. He is the president of his own security company. He has matured and grown into the version of himself that I don’t think he could have ever really done on the mother ship back then.” That growth makes the reunion feel like a continuation rather than a reset.

The relationship is more compelling than the machinery built around it. The European pursuit gives the leads a reason to stay together and keeps the season moving, but its action-adventure and conspiracy elements can feel familiar. The serialized format is a meaningful change from NCIS; the particulars of the threat are not always as fresh as the characters’ history.

If you want to see Tony and Ziva negotiate a life shaped by parenthood, old hurt, and new danger, the continuous plot serves a clear purpose even when its thriller elements are less memorable.
How was it received?
As of October 8, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes displayed an 82% Tomatometer based on 11 reviews and an 82% Popcornmeter based on 250-plus ratings. Those figures are a dated snapshot and can change. The critical picture reflected in the reviews is similarly mixed: the leads’ chemistry and the pleasure of seeing the characters again drew praise, while some reviewers were less persuaded by the case and the show’s familiar action-adventure beats.
Does the season finale provide closure?
Yes, for the immediate story: the central threat is resolved, and Tony, Ziva, and Tali are together. The ending offers a degree of closure rather than leaving the aired season on the darker cliffhanger once intended to lead into a second season.
There will not be a second season. TV Insider reported on December 19, 2025, that the series had been canceled after one season. Its report also described the unused alternate ending and the season-one conclusion. The result is a complete enough ending for the immediate danger, but not a continuation of the family’s story.

Paramount+ is the documented streaming home for the series. TV Insider reported that season one remained on the service after cancellation, but streaming availability can vary by country and change over time, so check the catalog where you live.
