What happens in “Foreign Bodies”?
A murder threatens the talks
Undercover agent Diego Barreto collapses and dies at NCIS headquarters as Vance prepares to meet with the Venezuelan Navy about a joint anti-piracy task force. To keep the investigation moving without immediately disrupting the talks, the team takes Barreto’s body to his hotel. Kasie identifies pufferfish poison as the cause of death.
A second body complicates the case
At the hotel, the team finds another dead man in Barreto’s room: an apparent hitman whose neck has been broken. The investigation brings undercover operative Fernando Vega into the picture. Vega is trying to identify an assassin hired to sabotage the talks, while the case also connects to Lena Paulson, a former German government agent and Vance’s romantic interest.

The killer’s motive is personal
The episode’s final reveal points to Admiral Carlos Mendoza: he ordered Barreto’s murder after learning that Barreto had an affair with his wife. The plot therefore involves both an effort to undermine the talks and a personal motive for killing the undercover agent.
