The NCIS franchise’s 1,000th aired episode is “A Thousand Yards,” which CBS broadcast on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:00 PM ET/PT. It is episode 464 of the flagship NCIS series, not that series’ 1,000th episode. The 1,000 count combines five shows: NCIS, NCIS: Hawai‘i, NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: New Orleans. The milestone episode has already aired, so the “updates” in this guide cover the current flagship season, Season 24, which premiered on October 6, 2026.
What the 1,000 count includes
CBS counted aired episodes across all five series in the franchise. Two numbers are easy to confuse, and the difference matters when you look up an episode guide:

- 464th episode: the position of “A Thousand Yards” within the original NCIS series alone.
If you are searching a flagship episode list for a “1,000” label, you will not find one. Search for the title “A Thousand Yards” or for episode 464 instead.

Story
CBS’s episode description says NCIS comes under attack from a mysterious enemy from the team’s past. The same episode follows Leon Vance, played by Rocky Carroll, as he tries to repair his relationship with his estranged son and explains to him why he keeps working at NCIS despite the constant danger. The episode mixes a case-driven threat with a personal storyline for Vance, which is why the milestone was framed around the character’s history as well as the agency’s.

The 42,722-minute figure
CBS also published a calculation for the milestone: about 42,722 minutes, or just under 30 days, to watch all 1,000 episodes back to back without breaks. The figure is CBS’s own arithmetic, not an independent study, and it applies to the franchise total described above.
Season 24 of NCIS: where the flagship series stands
CBS’s Season 24 episode guide lists “Wayward Son” as S24 E1, premiering October 6, 2026. Its synopsis says the team faces a new threat to the Secretary of the Navy while dealing with the fallout from a shooting involving McGee’s son. It also says Tony DiNozzo, played by Michael Weatherly, arrives in Washington, D.C., to open a satellite office for his private security firm. This is current-season material and has no connection to the April 2024 milestone episode.

- Sean Murray as Timothy McGee
- Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres
- Katrina Law as Jessica Knight
