NBCUniversal announced in March 2026 that it would wind down first-run production of its remaining syndicated shows, including Access Hollywood, Access Live, Karamo and The Steve Wilkos Show. The company said the change was intended to better align its programming with local stations’ preferences. The announced run-out windows were September for the two Access programs and summer for Karamo and The Steve Wilkos Show; those were expected timelines, not confirmed final air dates.
Which shows did NBCUniversal name?
The March 2026 announcement covered four first-run syndicated programs. Access Live was included alongside Access Hollywood, even though it is often left out of shorthand descriptions of the decision.

Why is NBCUniversal ending first-run syndicated production?
NBCUniversal’s stated reason was to align its first-run syndication division more closely with what local stations want to program. Frances Berwick, chairman of Bravo and Peacock unscripted at NBCUniversal, said: “NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations.” The statement was reported by UPI on March 14, 2026.
Separately, TheWrap reported on March 13, 2026 that NBCUniversal’s assessment involved consumer demand at local stations and its view that the existing syndication-studio model was not sustainable. That is reported business context, not a quantified explanation: the available reporting does not provide a financial breakdown or specific ratings figures.

Does this end NBCUniversal’s syndication business?
No. The decision concerns producing new first-run syndicated episodes of the named shows, not ending distribution of all syndicated programming. NBCUniversal said it would continue distributing its existing program library and other off-network titles, according to UPI’s March 14, 2026 report.

The reports describe expected production and run-out timing at the time of the March 2026 announcement, not confirmed final broadcast outcomes. The Access programs were expected to continue through September, while Karamo and The Steve Wilkos Show were expected to run through summer after completing that season’s production. The sources reviewed do not establish whether Access Hollywood and Access Live completed production as planned or give the actual final broadcast date for any of the four programs.
